Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I enrol my child?

A: The first step is to tour your preferred Edge Early Learning and Kindergarten centre by booking a tour. This gives you an opportunity to meet our educators, explore our nurturing environment, and understand how we can provide an experience that is best suited to your child. After your tour, you’ll receive an enrolment form to secure a spot or join the waitlist.

Q: Does our centre have availability or a waitlist?

A: We accept enrolments for future start dates at our Bellbird Park childcare, so whether you’re trying to enrol your child to start next month, or further down the track, we can assist you. Our Family Engagement Team can provide you with our current availability in each classroom, and help you join our waitlist if we don’t have a position for your child when you need it. Call us on 07 3517 0629 between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Q: What is the Child Care Subsidy (CCS)?

A: The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is a federal government subsidy designed to help Australian families with the cost of approved childcare. The amount you receive depends on your family’s income, the type of care, and your recognised activity hours. You will need to apply for the Child Care Subsidy through MyGov before your child starts at Edge Bellbird Park so that it can help reduce the cost of your childcare from day one. Each eligible family’s CCS is paid directly to Edge Bellbird Park, and we are then able to invoice families for any ‘gap’ fee payable for each day of care. Learn about CCS.

Q: How can I estimate my childcare fees?

Applying for the Child Care Subsidy is simple; however, you should apply early to ensure you are ready to receive subsidised care in time for your child’s first day at Edge Bellbird Park. To apply for the CCS:

  • Set up a MyGov account (if you don’t have one already) and ensure you have a Customer Reference Number
  • Set up your Centrelink online account through MyGov
  • Prove your identity through documentation to be able to claim payments (you can do this online or in-person at Centrelink)
  • Gather supporting documents including payslips, birth certificate, and medical records
  • Submit supporting documents in your Centrelink online account or the express plus Centrelink mobile app. You can also mail, fax, or visit a service centre.
  • Lodge your application via MyGov.
  • Once this is lodged, Edge Early Learning, as your childcare provider, will input your enrolment details and lodge your application for you to get it fully processed.
  • The Government will then notify you to confirm your subsidy eligibility and entitlement (how much they will subsidise off your childcare cost).

For more information on the application process, including how to do the childcare subsidy assessment, visit Services Australia website.

Q: Do you offer 'Free Kindy'?

A: Our government‑approved Kindergarten program is delivered by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher and experienced educators to give children a confident start to school.

Eligible families can access ‘Free Kindy’ funding (15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year)* at our centre to reduce out‑of‑pocket costs. Our centre team or Family Engagement Team, can help explain how ‘Free Kindy’ funding from the QLD government can be applied on top of your existing Childcare Subsidy, to further reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Find out more about ‘Free Kindy’.

At Edge Early Learning, our Kindergarten program runs year-round with extended hours to meet your family’s needs. Each child’s learning goals are personalised and tracked across the 11 Key Learning Areas to build school‑ready skills such as early literacy, numeracy, independence, self-help skills, emotional regulation, and social skills.

* ‘Free Kindy’ subsidy totals 600 hours of subsidised Kindergarten per year.

Q: What’s the difference between Kindy at Edge Bellbird Park and community Kindergarten centre?

A: There is no difference to the quality of the Kindy education program offered at Edge Bellbird Park versus a community or stand-alone Kindergarten. Our program meets both the Early Years Learning Framework (national curriculum) and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline. What you will find sets us apart is our Teach A Rainbow education program in Kindy, which is exclusive to Edge and is taught by a degree qualified Early Childhood Teacher. The other main difference between Edge Bellbird Park’s Kindy and other standalone providers is family flexibility. Our Childcare and Kindy run year-round, with long daycare session hours (how long we can care for your child each day) for those families that need it. This means you don’t need to find alternative care for your child during the school holidays, or outside of the 8am–3:30pm Kindy program each day.

Only want to attend our centre for ‘Free Kindy’ across two days each week? That’s fine too! We offer a flexible 7.5 hour session for families who simply want their child to participate in Free Kindy for the 7.5 hour days, two days each week.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: At Edge Early Learning Bellbird Park, we aim to make life as easy as possible for you, so we supply most of the necessities including sustainable nappies, wipes, sunscreen, bedding, and nutritious meals (breakfast through to a late snack) to ensure your child is well-cared for throughout the day. However, there are a few items that you will need to bring to ensure your child has everything they need:

  • Hat and drink bottle (supplied on enrolment)
  • Spare clothes (3 sets)
  • Any comfort items (dummies)
  • Nappy cream (requires pharmacy label)
  • Formula (pre-measured in dispenser) & baby bottles (pre-filled with water) / Breastmilk (clearly labelled)

Q: Where is the centre located?

A: Positioned near the border of Bellbird Park and Augustine Heights, our location is ideal for families from both suburbs. We’re conveniently located on the corner of Augusta Parkway and Jones Road, only a 2 minute drive to Bellbird Park State School and a 4 minute drive to Augusta State School. Plus, we offer on-site parking for added ease and accessibility.

Q: Do you provide food?

A: Yes! Your child will enjoy nutritious meals designed to be age-appropriate and nutritionally balanced to support healthy growth and development. Featuring a variety of whole foods and culturally inspired dishes, we ensure we meet all dietary needs and allergy requirements—ensuring every child receives nourishing meals each day.

Q: What extra-curricular activities are provided?

A: At our Bellbird Park daycare and Kindergarten, all extra-curricular activities are included in your daily fees — no extra charges!

  • Weekly language lessons (Toddlers to Kindy)
  • Fortnightly cooking experiences (Kindy)
  • Gardening and sustainability program (Toddlers)

Additionally, we offer allied health professional visits including dental, which are bulk billed for eligible families. We also warmly welcome occupational therapists, speech pathologists, behavioural therapists and inclusion support to work with children at the centre.

Q: Can I book additional casual days?

A: Yes! At Edge Early Learning Bellbird Park, we make it simple to book care when you need it. We partner with Childcare Now, an on-demand booking platform that allows you to book a casual day at the touch of a button, from your phone.

Enrolled families will receive a weekly SMS letting you know when there’s availability in your child’s room. You can instantly book available casual days or go on a waitlist and be the first to be notified if space opens up for the date you need extra childcare.

Q: Do you offer a holiday discount?

A: Yes! Discover flexible childcare with our annual holiday discount offering 30% off* the daily fee for up to 4 weeks per year.

*The Edge Early Learning holiday discount entitles enrolled families to up to 4 weeks of holiday discount per year when the family provides a minimum two weeks’ notice in advance of the holiday. One week of holiday equates to the number of days in your child’s permanent weekly booking. Once your holiday discount is approved by your Centre Director, the Edge Centre Support Team will apply a 30% discount to the daily fee during the holiday period. Up to four weeks total holiday discount per enrolment per year.

Q: How do you communicate and partner with families?

A: We know that children thrive when families and educators work together. That’s why our Bellbird Park childcare has an open-door policy, welcoming you to connect and collaborate with our educators and centre leadership team about your child’s growth, interests, and goals. At Edge, your child’s development is a shared journey, and we invite you to be involved through regular updates including:

  • Weekly: Highlights of your child’s learning and classroom activities throughout the week.
  • Monthly / Bi-monthly: Snapshot of your child’s goals, progress, and meaningful moments. Plus, a monthly centre newsletter with team updates and upcoming events.
  • Twice yearly / Annual: A comprehensive summative assessment of your child’s progress over the prior six months, or a school transition report for kindergarten children preparing for school. We also involve families when it’s time for your child to transition to the next room, to support a smooth and confident transition.
  • Upon Request: Face-to-face conversations about your child’s development.

A: At Edge Early Learning Bellbird Park, we are deeply committed to creating a safe, caring environment where every child’s wellbeing is always our top priority. Our dedicated team prioritises safeguarding children through comprehensive policy and procedure, daily practices, educational programs, and adherence to national child safety principles.

  • We actively collaborate with respected child safety organisations including Life Ed and Bravehearts to further strengthen personal safety education within our programs.
  • Our Kindy children enjoy exclusive year-long access to Life Ed’s Harold’s Little Learners program, which explores emotional resilience, body safety and how to enforce clear boundaries, healthy routines including how to stay safe online, and building confidence and independence ahead of school.
  • All supervisory and senior team members complete ongoing Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting training.
  • Our S.A.F.E. framework (Spot, Act, Fix, Explain) empowers educators to speak up and take action whenever something doesn’t feel right, fostering a strong culture of accountability and transparency.
  • Our Active Supervision policy ensures all educators consistently Plan, Position, Look, and Listen to ensure safe learning environments at all times.
