edge early learning storyfest visit

Earlier this month, Edge Early Learning Tarragindi and Milton centres received a special visit from Somerset Storyfest’s ‘On The Road’ program, where renowned Australian children’s performer – Lucas Proudfoot – put on a show for the children.

The mobile program developed by Storyfest, provides a unique opportunity to the Gold Coast, Brisbane and beyond, by offering pop-up writing and illustrator workshops to schools and early learning centres throughout the region.

Through this workshop, children are provided opportunities to develop and inspire their creative writing skills and work on their illustrator prowess, with the program developed to enhance Queensland curriculum requirements.

Lucas Proudfoot who visited the Edge centres, is well-known for his guitar, didgeridoo and stomp box skills, and has performed for over 120,000 children each year. A multi-platform storyteller, Lucas shares stories through his music, books and live performances.

Edge Early Learning Tarragindi Centre Director, Kathryn Edwards, said the visit was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children and educators alike.

“Lucas hosted a fantastic music show for the children using his guitar and didgeridoo to create music that involved all the children singing, dancing and copying the moves,” she said.

“The children absolutely loved the show and were fully engaged throughout. Even the educators joined in and were singing and dancing along to the musical beats.”

“Lucas talked about Aboriginal culture, animals and music through upbeat songs and dance, with four children even invited to play the clap sticks while he made music with the didgeridoo.”

Edge Early Learning has had a longstanding relationship with Somerset Storyfest, previously sponsoring the leading children’s literature festival.

The ‘On The Road’ program is a fantastic community engagement initiative and Edge Early Learning is thrilled to continue to provide experiences like this one, where children can actively participate in the Arts and creative learning experiences.
