What is the 'Teach A Rainbow' Educational Program?

“Teach A Rainbow” is a thoughtfully designed program implemented to enhance the curriculums of Edge Early Learning centres nationwide, fostering exceptional, child-centred learning experiences across all our locations. This educational program is driven by children’s natural curiosity, core learning areas and vital developmental skills, helping each child grow in a supportive, joyful environment.

With a curriculum that spans social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language development, Teach A Rainbow supports each child’s holistic growth. Each of the learning experiences and play opportunities in this program are directly linked to the five outcomes outlined in Belonging, Being, and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia V2.0.

Teach A Rainbow also involves families as partners in their child’s learning journey. Parents and guardians can access detailed insights into their child’s development and progress, enhancing the partnership between educators and families.

Educational Program Areas

Black: STEM

Exploring Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through play.
Testing children’s ideas, hypotheses and theories through play-based investigations.

Purple: Creative Arts, Music, and Drama

Creative expression through process-based opportunities.
Paint, dance, song, music making, drawing, role-play, playdough, clay, transient art, and sculpture poetry.

Orange: Fundamental Movement and Fine Motor Skills

Balance, locomotor, and ball skills.
Coordination between children’s small muscles in coordination with their eyes.

Light Blue: Social, Emotional, Health, and Wellbeing

Social and emotional development.
Encompasses dental, nutrition, first aid, hygiene practices, yoga, mindfulness, meditation, and self-advocacy.

Yellow: Community and Culture

Learning about and celebrating diversity of culture.
Social sustainability – the ability to collaboratively live, work, and play now and in the future.

Red: Indigneous Perspectives

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of being, knowing, doing, and learning.
Books, songs, artwork, history, storytelling, community visitors, acknowledgement, native language exploration, and connection to Country.

Dark Green: Literacy and Language

Oral language and speech development.
Text conventions, mark marking and emergent literacy, symbols, books and storytelling.

Brown: Numeracy

Numbers, patterns, data, sequencing, counting, number names, shapes, measuring, categorising, grouping, using mathematical vocabulary.

Pink: Sensory

Engaging children’s senses as they explore touch, smell, sight, sound, and taste.

Light Green: Sustainability

Learning about the natural environment.
Supporting children to become knowledgeable and active citizens in protecting the environment for a sustainable future.

Dark Blue: Life Skills

Children benefit from acquiring foundational life skills that contribute to their overall development and independence.
Self-help and self-care, mastering developmental milestones, problem solving, decision making, and collaboration and communication with others.

Rainbow Educational Program at Edge Early Learning

At Edge Early Learning, the ‘Teach A Rainbow’ is fully integrated across all Edge centres in Queensland, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory, providing children with a cohesive, vibrant learning environment that nurtures each child’s unique strengths and builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

This integration has been shaped by trials at selected centres throughout 2023, which influenced a rollout via a carefully planned phase approach in 2024. Within each phase, emphasis was placed on educator training, practice weeks, and dedicated resources to ensure Edge centres were fully prepared to deliver this high-quality program. With ongoing support from Program and Practice Leaders, they will be fully equipped to create learning experiences that meet National Quality Standards and foster an inclusive, engaging classroom environment.

This program is a transformative step in Edge Early Learning’s commitment to providing outstanding early education. The program’s focus on diversity, creativity, and inclusion means that every child’s curiosity and ideas will be valued and explored in a meaningful way.
