Apples are the perfect throw-in-your-bag snack to just grab and go. Add a teensy bit of effort and the humble apple becomes the base for a whole host of healthy snacks to tempt your little one’s tastebuds.

 

There’s a simple joy in biting into a fresh, crisp apple, bursting with juice. And they’re so good for us; loaded with fibre, vitamins and antioxidants. But, whether your favourite variety is Red Delicious, Royal Gala, or Granny Smith, eating an apple a day can get kind of dull. That’s why we’ve rounded up 10 super-easy apple recipes with few ingredients, including our best no bake apple recipes that are sure to be a hit at your place. So raid your fruit bowl and pop an apron on your little one, because these are great apple recipes for preschoolers to make too!

 

Baked healthy apple recipes:

  • Baked Apple Chips – Ingredients: apples, cinnamon. Instructions: Slice apples thinly, sprinkle them with cinnamon, and bake at 100°C for 1.5-2 hours until the apple turns into crispy chips. Try the recipe.
  • Apple and Oat Breakfast Bars – Ingredients: rolled oats, grated apples, honey, cinnamon and more. Instructions: Mix the ingredients and bake them into healthy, grab-and-go breakfast bars. Try the recipe.
  • Stuffed Baked Apples – Ingredients: apples, oats, dried fruits, cinnamon and nuts. Instructions: Core the apples, leaving the base intact, and stuff them with a mixture of oats, fruits, and spices. Place the apples in a baking dish with ¾ cup boiling water and bake at 190°C for 30 to 45 minutes, until the apples are cooked through and tender.
  • Apple Smoothie – Ingredients: apple slices, banana, spinach, yogurt, and a dash of honey. Instructions: Blend for a delicious, green smoothie packed with fruits and vegetables.

 

No-bake healthy apple recipes:

  • Apple and Cheese Skewers – Ingredients: apple chunks, cheese cubes, and seasonal grapes or berries. Instructions: Skewer cheese, apples, and other fruit and serve. Be sure to supervise children with skewers as they can be sharp.
  • Apple “Fries” with Yogurt Dip – Ingredients: apples, cinnamon, Greek yogurt and honey. Instructions: Slice apples into “fries” and serve with a yogurt and honey dip
  • Apple and Carrot Slaw – Ingredients: apples, carrots, dressing. Instructions: Grate or thinly slice apples and carrots and mix with a little Greek yogurt-based dressing to make a crunchy, colourful slaw. Try the recipe.
  • Mini Apple Pizzas – Ingredients: apple slices, yogurt, granola and fruit toppings. Instructions: Layer apple slices with yogurt and let kids add toppings like berries or granola, mimicking pizza.
  • Apple Sandwiches with Nut Butter – Ingredients: apple slices, nut butter (try almond or peanut), and optional toppings like oats or raisins. Instructions: Spread the nut butter on two apple slices and encourage your kids to add their own toppings for a fun and healthy snack.
  • Apple Iceblocks – Ingredients: apples, yogurt, honey, and fruit juice. Instructions: Puree apples with yogurt and fruit juice, then freeze them in fun iceblock moulds.
