At Edge Early Learning, we are proud to be a Child Safe Organisation—where safety is not just a priority, but a deeply embedded part of our culture. Every child has the right to feel safe, supported and heard, and we are committed to creating environments where children thrive through connection, trust and protection.

We uphold a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse and neglect, and follow the standards set by the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Our team members are trained, supported, and empowered to act with integrity and urgency whenever concerns arise.

Our Culture of

Safety and Respect

Our culture is built on trust, transparency and shared responsibility. We believe that safeguarding is not just a set of policies—it’s a mindset that shapes how we speak, act and connect every day.

We foster a culture where:

  • Children’s voices are valued, and their perspectives shape our environments and decisions
  • Educators lead with empathy and accountability, modelling respectful relationships and safe behaviours
  • Families are partners, actively engaged in conversations about safety, wellbeing and inclusion
  • Team members feel confident and supported to raise concerns, reflect on practice and continuously improve
  • Cultural safety is prioritised, ensuring every child feels seen, respected and celebrated—especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and those from diverse backgrounds

We celebrate curiosity, kindness and courage. By embedding safety into our culture, we create spaces where children don’t just feel safe—they flourish.

Our S.A.F.E. Approach to Child Safety

We use the S.A.F.E. framework to guide our everyday actions and decision-making:

  • Spot concerns early through active supervision, listening and observation
  • Act with courage and clarity to protect children and uphold their rights
  • Fix risks immediately with practical, preventative steps
  • Explain safety expectations clearly to children, families and colleagues to build a culture of trust

What We Stand For

We are deeply committed to creating safe, inclusive environments where every child feels protected, respected and empowered. Safety is not just a policy—it’s a daily practice embedded in our culture, our spaces and our relationships.

Our approach includes:

  • Visible safety practices such as supervision windows, reflective mirrors and daily safety checklists
  • Mandatory child protection training and valid Working with Children Checks for all team members
  • Clear reporting pathways, with every staff member acting as a mandatory reporter
  • Support for diversity, ensuring children from all backgrounds feel safe and heard
  • Child voice and agency, actively involving children in decisions that affect their wellbeing
  • Accountability measures, including a Whistleblower Policy and regular audits by our specialist teams
  • Guidance through policy, with a robust Code of Conduct and child protection procedures that inform every decision

We believe safeguarding is a shared responsibility. Through leadership, transparency and everyday action, we build a culture where children know they are safe—and know they are supported.

Safe Recruitment Practices

We believe safeguarding begins with the people we choose to represent our organisation. Our Recruitment Policy is designed to uphold the highest standards of child protection from the very first interaction.

Key safeguards include:

  • Mandatory employment screening, including verification of Working with Children Checks (WWCC)
  • Pre-employment screening to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements, and to engage staff who align with our values and possess the necessary skills, experience and qualifications
  • At least two reference checks for every candidate, including managers or supervisors from previous child-related roles
  • Prohibition Declaration Forms, requiring candidates to disclose prior roles and responsibilities in the sector
  • No formal offer is made until all checks are satisfactorily completed, and no employee may commence work without these safeguards in place

We don’t just hire for capability—we hire for character, integrity and a shared commitment to protecting children.

Working Together to Keep Children Safe

Keeping children safe is something we all share. When families, educators and communities work together, we create places where children feel safe, are safe, and know they are cared for. We’re always looking for ways to improve, listen and learn—so every child can grow up feeling strong, respected and happy.
