We welcome children from 6 weeks to school age into our Cannon Hill childcare and kindergarten program. In our purpose-built indoor and outdoor learning environments, qualified teachers and educators deliver Edge’s bespoke Teach A Rainbow program, personalised to your child’s interests and individual learning goals. Children learn through play with engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that are aligned to the national curriculum. Our classrooms benefit from art atelier rooms where children participate in the creative arts, while strengthening their imagination, emotional intelligence and problem-solving.

We offer year-round care with long daycare hours to suit busy family schedules, and our Kindergarten program is government-approved for your peace of mind.

Our qualified team is highly experienced in early learning and builds strong, trusting relationships with children and families to support a confident start to school. Children from our centre will often go on to attend Cannon Hill State School, St. Oliver Plunkett Primary School or Cannon Hill Anglican College.

Our children’s teachers have worked with us & most importantly with our son.

Cannon Hill Kindergarten Program

Our government-approved Cannon Hill Kindergarten program (or Kindy) is delivered by our university qualified Early Childhood Teacher and experienced educators. It’s designed to build school-ready skills such as early literacy, numeracy, independence, self-help skills, emotional regulation, and social skills. Eligible families can access ‘Free Kindy’ funding (15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year)* at our Cannon Hill centre to reduce out-of-pocket costs, in addition to any Childcare Subsidy (CCS) your family may be eligible for.

* ‘Free Kindy’ subsidy totals 600 hours of subsidised Kindergarten per year. Learn more about the Queensland Free Kindy program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I enrol my child?

A: The first step is to tour your preferred Edge Early Learning and Kindergarten centre by booking a tour. This gives you an opportunity to meet our Cannon Hill educators, explore our nurturing environment, and understand how we can provide an experience that is best suited to your child. After your tour, you’ll receive an enrolment form to secure a spot or join the waitlist.

Q: Does our centre have availability or a waitlist?

A: We accept enrolments for future start dates at our Cannon Hill childcare, so whether you’re trying to enrol your child to start next month, or further down the track, we can assist you. Our Family Engagement Team can provide you with our current availability in each classroom, and help you join our waitlist if we don’t have a position for your child when you need it. Call us on 07 3517 0629 between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Q: What is the Child Care Subsidy (CCS)?

A: The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is a federal government subsidy designed to help Australian families with the cost of approved childcare. The amount you receive depends on your family’s income, the type of care, and your recognised activity hours. You will need to apply for the Child Care Subsidy through MyGov before your child starts at our daycare in Cannon Hill, so that it can help reduce the cost of your childcare from day one. Each eligible family’s CCS is paid directly to Edge Cannon Hill, and we are then able to invoice families for any ‘gap’ fee payable for each day of care. Learn about CCS.

Q: How do I apply for the Childcare Subsidy (CCS)?

Applying for the Child Care Subsidy is simple; however, you should apply early to ensure you are ready to receive subsidised care in time for your child’s first day at Edge Cannon Hill. To apply for the CCS:

  • Set up a MyGov account (if you don’t have one already) and ensure you have a Customer Reference Number
  • Set up your Centrelink online account through MyGov
  • Prove your identity through documentation to be able to claim payments (you can do this online or in-person at Centrelink)
  • Gather supporting documents including payslips, birth certificate, and medical records
  • Submit supporting documents in your Centrelink online account or the express plus Centrelink mobile app. You can also mail, fax, or visit a service centre.
  • Lodge your application via MyGov.
  • Once this is lodged, Edge Early Learning, as your childcare provider, will input your enrolment details and lodge your application for you to get it fully processed.
  • The Government will then notify you to confirm your subsidy eligibility and entitlement (how much they will subsidise off your childcare cost).

For more information on the application process, including how to do the childcare subsidy assessment, visit Services Australia website.

Q: How can I estimate my childcare fees?

A: You can use our easy Childcare Subsidy Calculator to get an estimate of your out-of-pocket fees for our centre. Simply input your details, and the calculator will provide an indication of your potential subsidy and fees.

Q: Do you offer 'Free Kindy'?

A: The Queensland Government offers eligible Queensland children up to 15 hours of Kindy per week free*, for 40 weeks of the year, generally aligning to Queensland primary school terms. This subsidy further reduces the cost of Kindy at Edge Cannon Hill, especially where our families are already receiving the Childcare Subsidy (CCS) to subsidise their childcare costs. As we operate long daycare hours for busy families, parents and carers of Kindy children simply need to pay the cost of any Kindy program hours over the 600 ‘free’ hours. These are often referred to as ‘wrap-around’ hours. Your Childcare Subsidy will also continue to subsidise your ‘wrap-around’ hours so that your child can get the most out of their Kindy education (yes! In Kindy you could be eligible for two subsidies at once to reduce your fees). Navigating Kindy Funding and the CCS can be tricky. You can always ask our Cannon Hill Centre Director, the Edge Family Engagement Team on (07) 3517 0629 or find out more about ‘Free Kindy’ here.

At Edge Early Learning, our Cannon Hill Kindy program runs year-round with extended hours from 6:30am to 6:30pm to meet your family’s needs. Each child’s learning goals are personalised and tracked across the 11 Key Learning Areas in Edge’s exclusive Teach A Rainbow education program to build school‑ready skills such as early literacy, numeracy, independence, self-help skills, emotional regulation, and social skills.

* ‘Free Kindy’ subsidy totals 600 hours of subsidised Kindergarten per year.”

Q: What’s the difference between Kindy at Edge Cannon Hill and community Kindergarten?

A: There is no difference to the quality of the Kindy education program offered at our Cannon Hill Kindy versus a community or stand-alone Kindergarten. Our program meets both the Early Years Learning Framework (national curriculum) and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline. What you will find sets us apart is our Teach A Rainbow education program in Kindy, which is exclusive to Edge and is taught by a degree qualified Early Childhood Teacher. The other main difference between our Cannon Hill Kindy and other standalone providers is family flexibility. Our Childcare and Kindy run year-round, with long daycare session hours (how long we can care for your child each day) for those families that need it. This means you don’t need to find alternative care for your child during the school holidays, or outside of the 8:30am–4pm Kindy program each day.

Only want to attend our centre for ‘Free Kindy’ across two days each week? That’s fine too! We offer a flexible 7.5 hour session for families who simply want their child to participate in Free Kindy for the 7.5 hour days, two days each week.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: At Edge Early Learning Cannon Hill, we aim to make life as easy as possible for you, so we supply most of the necessities including sustainable nappies, wipes, sunscreen, and nutritious meals (breakfast through to a late snack) to ensure your child is well-cared for throughout the day. However, there are a few items that you will need to bring to ensure your child has everything they need:

  • Hat and drink bottle (supplied on enrolment)
  • Spare clothes (3 sets)
  • Bedding sheets for sleep time
  • Any comfort items (dummies)
  • Nappy cream (requires pharmacy label)
  • Formula (pre-measured in dispenser) & baby bottles (pre-filled with water) / Breastmilk (clearly labelled)

Q: Where is the centre located?

A: We’re conveniently located on Andrews Street, just across from the Cannon Hill Train Station—ideal for parents commuting to the city—and a 3 minute drive to Cannon Hill State School, St. Oliver Plunkett Primary School, and Cannon Hill Anglican College. Plus, we offer on-site parking for added ease and accessibility.

Q: Do you provide food?

A: Yes! Your child will enjoy fresh, nutritious meals prepared daily by our on-site chef. Designed with growing bodies in mind, our menus are designed to be age-appropriate and support healthy growth and development. Featuring a variety of whole foods and culturally inspired dishes, meals can be tailored to suit individual tastes, dietary needs, and allergy requirements—ensuring every child receives nourishing meals each day.

Q: What extra-curricular activities are provided?

A: At our Cannon Hill day care and kindergarten we offer the Billy’s buddies ball sports program. This program is optional and available for a small additional fee, giving families the flexibility to choose what suits their child’s interests.

Q: How do you communicate and partner with families?

A: At Edge Early Learning Cannon Hill, strong partnerships with families are at the heart of our childcare and kindergarten. We value open, two-way communication and invite families to connect with our Centre Leadership Team and educators at a time that works for them, ensuring you stay informed and involved in your child’s learning and development. Families at Edge receive regular and meaningful updates via the Storypark app, centre newsletters, and face-to-face conversations about your child’s development. As an Edge Family, you can expect to receive:

  • Weekly updates: Highlights of your child’s learning, program experiences, and classroom news delivered across the week.
  • Monthly updates: Individual learning snapshots on your child’s goals, progress, and special moments.
  • Twice yearly / Annual updates: A comprehensive summative assessment outlining your child’s development, a transition statement for kindergarten children heading to school, and a structured room transition process which includes family discussions to ensure every room transition feels supported and well planned.

We are proud to work alongside families, creating a supportive and connected learning experience that helps every child thrive. For more information, see the regular updates you can expect.

Q: How do you look after children's safety and wellbeing?

A: At our Cannon Hill early learning centre, we are deeply committed to creating a safe, caring environment where every child’s wellbeing is always our top priority. Our dedicated team prioritises safeguarding children through comprehensive policy and procedure, daily practices, educational programs, and adherence to national child safety principles.

  • We actively collaborate with respected child safety organisations including Life Ed and Bravehearts to further strengthen personal safety education within our programs.
  • Our Kindy children enjoy exclusive year-long access to Life Ed’s Harold’s Little Learners program, which explores emotional resilience, body safety and how to enforce clear boundaries, healthy routines including how to stay safe online, and building confidence and independence ahead of school.
  • All supervisory and senior team members complete ongoing Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting training.
  • Our S.A.F.E. framework (Spot, Act, Fix, Explain) empowers educators to speak up and take action whenever something doesn’t feel right, fostering a strong culture of accountability and transparency.
  • Our Active Supervision policy ensures all educators consistently Plan, Position, Look, and Listen to ensure safe learning environments at all times.
