Under the new system, every child will have access to at least three days of subsidised care per week, regardless of their parents’ activity levels. This initiative will help ensure that every child gets the best possible start in life.
From January 2026, all families will qualify for at least 72 hours of subsidised ECEC per fortnight—that’s three days per week!
Families who meet activity requirements or hold valid exemptions can still access up to 100 hours of subsidised care per fortnight. Additionally, families caring for a First Nations child will receive 100 hours of subsidised care per fortnight, ensuring equitable support for all.

The new 3 Day Guarantee supports universal access to high-quality early learning.
Research shows that children who participate in early education are better prepared for school and life. Unfortunately, those who could benefit the most are often the least likely to access care. This initiative removes financial barriers, providing cost-of-living relief and ensuring that more children can enjoy the benefits of early learning.
