The Role of an Educator
17 September, 2024
Our educators are more than just carers. They’re trained professionals with specialist expertise in educating children through play.
What is an early childhood educator?
At Edge Early Learning, we hire and develop early childhood educators who love children and enjoy helping each one to blossom. The role of an educator is to help children to learn and grow and it’s truly wonderful. Our educators undertake formal training so they are skilled at engaging children and delivering the Australian curriculum.
What qualifications do you need to be an early childhood educator?
At Edge Early Learning, we require all our educators to be studying a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care at the very minimum. This qualification takes about 12-18 months to complete, giving graduates an excellent grounding in the role of an educator in early childhood. The next level of qualification is a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, which takes one to two years to complete. To take on an educator role in our Kindy rooms, educators must hold a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education, which is a three-year, full-time commitment (or six years part-time).
What are the key responsibilities of an early childhood educator?
Staff employed in an early childhood educator role at Edge Early Learning are guided by the following key goals:
- Creating a safe learning environment;
- Developing and implementing the education curriculum;
- Observing and assessing children’s development and progress, and:
- Building supportive relationships with children and families.
The impact of an educator in early childhood
Educators play a pivotal role in a child’s early life, simply because of the significant amount of time they spend with children. At Edge, we consider it a privilege to be able to guide and nurture children during their early years. Our educators put in considerable effort to plan each day so children are offered a variety of learning opportunities. People employed in the educator role can influence every aspect of a child’s learning and development, including their social skills, language development, and cognitive abilities. The benefits children receive from trained educators give them a great start to life and a headstart in their academic journey.
