Valentine’s Day, for families

12 February, 2020

Edge Early Learning Valentines Day

Valentine’s Day has typically been reserved for loved-up couples, but there’s no reason you can’t get your whole family in on the love.

Lunchbox love notes

Lunchbox notes are always a popular (surprise!) addition to any child’s school lunchbox. While you could go out and buy some (yes, a number of brands have hopped on the bandwagon in recent years and you can now buy printed lunchbox notes and notepaper), you can also get into the Valentine’s Day spirit and make something special for your little ones from the heart. Have a quick Google for inspiration! And don’t forget that old-faithful trick of using a toothpick or skewer to write a message on the skin of their banana. By lunchtime, your toothpick writing will have darkened to almost black, to become a solid dedication of your love for them. Cute!

Bake with heart

… or, rather, bake heart-shaped sugar cookies! These red velvet ones by Baking a Moment taste just as lovely as they look, and you could even customise them by adding special messages in the icing. Make them here.

Pink pancakes

Pancakes brighten up any school morning, but pink pancakes will make your family’s Valentine’s Day really memorable. Make up your pancake mix the night before if you’re going to be short on time in the morning (Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year), or get up early with your little helpers and whip up the ultimate Valentine’s Day brekkie. Show love to your teacher

We love our children’s teachers every day of the year, but Valentine’s Day provides another opportunity to show it. Don’t wait until the end of the school year to show them your gratitude – these heart-warming jars are the perfect way to spread some teacher gratitude on Valentine’s Day. Make them here.

Enjoy date night – with the whole family!

With Valentine’s Day falling on a Friday this year, it provides the perfect opportunity to make a night of this annual celebration. Whether your idea of a perfect family date night means heading out on the town for a delicious family dinner and some ice cream afterwards, or staying in with some animated kids’ movies and junk food, treat yourself and your family to a memorable evening to celebrate this day of love and show the little ones they are special to you.
